Do I have to live with sour grapefruit?

I'm buying a house with a beautiful grapefruit tree in the yard. I love grapefruit but the fruit on this tree is soooo sour I can't even eat it. Will fertilizing sweeten the fruit? The house was vacant for some time so it hasn't received any care. Any suggestions?

I have a similar situation. Did you ever find out if there was a way around having sour grapefruits?
