Growing an Avocado - when to cut/pinch?

I'm starting an avocado. I made the first cut/pinch at 6 inches as everyone recommends. However, now I have a stem with a branch that is growing like gangbusters. Should I be making more cuts? When, where, etc.

My only experience with avocado is it is generally pruned to suit size and shape preference.
