growing vegies in containers

I plan to start growing vegies in containers and I would like to have info on how to prepare the growing medium,I have some chicken compost that is at least five years old and I would like to know if that could be used along with some peat moss and other items, I want to grow tomatoes, eggplant,squash, bell peppers and cucumbers. I would appreciate any help you can give me. Potszer@netzero.net
