Trimming philodendrons after a freeze

how do i trim philodendrons after a freeze?

i live in south texas, so i don't have much experience with this kind of maintenance. i removed all the dead fronds, but there are still about 4-5 inches of the old ones left attached at the crown of the plant.

does that need to be removed also?
